Today's Tip: For Cryin' Out Loud: Pack Your Lunch!
Let's start off today by playing a game of The Price is Right. I realize that if you wanted a
game show, you have the alternative of watching television, but take a guess at what the
average retail price of the following items would be...
Do you realize that you can probably make at least four sandwiches out of these two items?
Sure, you may want some cheese or mustard to go with that, but follow me on this one.
The sum of these two items is $5.18, which would make the cost of four sandwiches all of
$1.30 per sandwich. If you can make a sandwich at this price, why would you pay as high
as $8.95 for the same sandwich?
As you read this, are you thinking...yeah, maybe so, but that's only an extra $3 to $4!
That's precisely my point. If you are a full-time employee and pack your lunch just half of
the time, this $3 to $4 could add up to somewhere in the range of $500 per year. As you
look at your budget, what expense could you put $500 towards? A vacation? One car
payment? An investment? Fund an IRA? There are a multitude of different options
available to you with your new found money.
And not only will you save money, but you will probably be eating healthier and avoid
weight gain throughout the year! Keep that in mind next time you decide to dine out on
your lunch break.
