Today's Tip: Don't Get Discouraged!
So many times on our website, we have compared budgeting to dieting. One of the most
difficult phases of personal dieting is facing those moments when you are just craving
something sweet. So many people ultimately fail dieting because they just cannot rebound
after giving in to that urge for ice cream or chocolate. They beat themselves up mentally,
and just can never get back on track.
Before you began budgeting and attempting to get your finances in order, did you reward
yourself with shopping sprees on occasion? Are you the type of person where if you see
something new and exciting, you just have to have it? Well, you know what...you are a
human being! There is an expression that "to err is human." Now, I don't necessarily think
that making a purchase is an "err;" however, from a budgeting perspective, it can be. If
you find yourself in a situation where your monthly budget is off considerably, you cannot
get discouraged!
One prior recommendation featured on our website was to save big purchases for the
months that you receive three paychecks. While this isn't a fail-proof method, if you think
about it, it is using your head. When you have excess, it doesn't hurt as much when you
make that big purchase.
Ultimately, if you remember one thing, like all other things in life...change takes time. There
really is no place for discouragement on the road of change.
